Hiking
Madeira is a hiker's paradise. Mountains, coast, valleys, "jungle", ... From simple "walks" to mountain tours.
There are three different categories of hikes:
The flat hikes along canals, so-called levadas. They transport water from the rainy mountains and the north to the dry south, irrigate fields there and provide drinking water. Next to each levada there are narrow, publicly accessible supply routes for repairs, which are popular for hiking. Their sometimes adventurous course through the mountains allows even untrained hikers easy access to the inner island.
The mountain hikes of the island with different levels of difficulty from easy to difficult. First and foremost, of course, the King's Tour from the second highest peak, the Pico Arieiro (1,818m) to the highest peak, the Pico Ruivo at 1,864m, but also the Encumeada Tour, which we have almost exclusively thanks to the organized transfer service for our cars.
Last but not least, the coastal hikes with often very spectacular views of the cliffs, e.g. the Ponta de Sao Lourenco, which is 20 minutes away from us.
There are an infinite number of beautiful pictures that we have taken. We have limited our selection to a few pictures to give you an impression.
